A second-year engineering student died and another sustained critical injuries when the motorbike by which they were travelling to Lambasingi rammed into a jeep coming from the opposite direction, near Avanti Engineering College at Makavaripalem, here on Thursday.
While the deceased was identified as Sai Charan from Suryapeta in Nalgonda district, the injured was Chaitanya from Hyderabad. Both were students of computer science at GITAM University.
According to Kothakota Inspector Venkat Rao, a group of six students on three motorbikes started at Visakhapatnam at about 7.30 a.m. and were on the way to Lambasingi. The accident occurred around 9.30 a.m.
While Sai Charan died on the spot, Chaitanya, who suffered critical head injuries, was shifted to a corporate hospital in Visakhapatnam. The body of Sai Charan was shifted to Narsipatnam area hospital.
Ever since Lambasingi has been in news for its mercury dipping to zero, people from all walks of life, especially students, have been thronging the place.
“Lambasingi is located about 35 km from Narsipatnam and the bypass road from the NH that leads to the locale is very narrow and motorists need to be careful,” cautioned Mr. Venkat Rao.
