Taking the unique Telugu literary feat to new heights, the first woman “satavadhanis” Bulusu Aparna and Pullabhatla Naga Santi Swaroopa bettered their retention record in their second endeavour.
Winding up their “Yugala Mahila Jatiya Satavadhanam,” with “dharana” (retention) here on Thursday evening, the two completed recitation of “dattapadi,” “samasya” and “varnana,” three major elements comprising 75 poems in the “avadhanam,” in 56 minutes, three less than their first at Vijayawada a few months ago. Their guru Dhulipala Mahadevamani announced the achievement. Among the audience was the redoubtable “Maha Sahasravadhani” Garikapati Narasimha Rao and “pruchhakas” (questioners).
The “jatiya satavadhanam” was organised by the Department of Music and Dance of Andhra University and Visakha Sahithi at Dr Y V S Murthy Auditorium. Sahithi secretary Kavilapati Narayana Rao described the feat as a milestone. Scholar Mallapragada Srimannarayana Murthy complimented them for mounting the Everest of Satavadhanam overcoming nagging health problems.
The entire recitation is laced with rich references to the epics, and contemporary political situation and tricky “samasyas” like Rama marrying Satyabhama.
In the Vijayotsavam later, Mr. Narasimha Rao, actor and writer Gollapudi Maruti Rao, Commissioner of Central Excise and Customs C. Rajinderan, K. Malayavasini, Gandhian K S Sastry, Annamraju Ramadevi, Kandala Srinivasa Rao, G P V Sarma, A. Gopala Rao, Cheruvu Ramakotaiah and Kavuri Charan Kumar took part.
