Even after retirement of distinguished service in the defence services, Lt. Gen N.S. Malik, who served as the Deputy Chief of Army Staff, is on a mission to sensitise youth on challenges being posed to the nation’s security and motivate them to take up the country’s leadership.
He visits from one college to another and addresses them on the glorious past of the country, the blunders the powers-that-be committed in the past by allowing Pakistan to occupy some areas in Jammu and Kashmir and gives a clarion call to them to strengthen the country’s political leadership.
Series of meetings“India is a strong country. Unless we get strong leadership, we cannot take bold decisions to defend and safeguard our sovereignty,” he said, while addressing a series of meetings held with students of management and engineering colleges in the city. Presently on a tour to the city, he addressed six meetings during past two days and is scheduled to address four meetings on Thursday.
During his meeting at Samata College and ANITS, he told the students: “You are the future who will shape the destiny of the country. We can thwart the challenges posed by China, Pakistan and other enemies only when we remain united and take firm decisions.” He also spoke on threats like cyber terrorism and satellite wars in future.
Without naming Aam Aadmi Party leader Prashant Bhushan, he said the talk on holding referendum on deployment of Army in Jammu and Kashmir was unfortunate. Army’s deployment in disturbed areas and highly difficult terrains in Siachen Glacier was meant to prevent intrusion by enemy forces.
Lt. Gen Malik advocated inclusion of India’s Freedom Struggle and subsequent wars the country fought with Pakistan and China in the school and college syllabus to make youth aware of the bravery of Indian armed forces and motivate them for a big role.
