Wielding brooms and dustbins, members of Chaitanya Sravanthi, a voluntary service organisation, along with an army of volunteers, made their way to Paindorapet, near Jalaripeta, to take part in Swachh Bharat campaign on Saturday.
At 7 a.m., the team visited the spot, picked up the papers, covers, and plastic bottles strewn all over the seashore and cleared the zone by dumping the garbage in the GVMC garbage trucks. Led by Swachh Bharat ambassador Shirin Rahman and convener V. Balamohandas, the programme was held in collaboration with the GVMC.
Wearing protective gear, the volunteers cleaned up the seashore in a couple of hours. “Our mission is to make the city 100 per cent open defecation-free. This can be made possible by bringing a change in the mindset, making those living in slum areas understand the importance of using toilets and keeping their surroundings clean. We were able to bring a change in areas such as Chilakapet and Relli Veedhi by making these neighbourhoods almost open defecation free,” said Dr. Shirin Rahman, adding that more areas will be included in future.
CMD of Vijay Nirman Company S. Vijay Kumar, Zone III Commissioner Bapi Raju, convenor of Paryavarana Margadarsi Vaisakhi R.J. Choudary and members of Chaitanya Sravanthi Vijaya Kumari, Rukiabhanu, Anasuya, Lakshmi and Sarada attended.
