In view of the changing weather and onset of monsoons there is a likelihood of increase in contagious and seasonal diseases, Principal Secretary (Health) Poonam Malakondaiah noted and directed officials to be ready to face the challenge.
Reviewing the preparedness for the seasonal diseases with district medical and health officers here on Saturday, the Principal Secretary directed the officials to conduct widespread awareness campaign on seasonal diseases and ensure that all the PHCs were stocked with necessary medicines and iron, calcium tablets and ORS packets.
In view of the high incidence of malaria in the Agency areas, she directed the officials to reach out to remote areas with mobile publicity teams, including Kala Jathas to spread awareness. She directed the doctors to regularly visit the residential schools and ensure that the students are healthy.
Special attention
She directed the doctors to pay special attention to pregnant women.
In view of reports of dengue in urban areas, she directed the Medical and Health Department officials to visit every household and create awareness on preventing breeding of mosquitoes. She also directed the officials to take steps to prevent spread of diseases like H1N1.
District Medical and Health Officer J Sarojini told the Secretary that the district officials were taking all steps to prevent spread of contagious diseases and medical camps were being conducted in the Agency areas. Since January 3,153 cases of malaria were reported in the district, 2269 in Agency areas, 173 in plains areas and 711 in urban areas.
The district also reported 379 cases of diarrhoea, 42 cases of Chikungunya, 93 Dengue and 10 Anthrax cases. The district has adequate stock of medicines, she added.
Joint Collector J Nivas, Joint Director Medical and Health Department Neeraja, Additional DMHO Venkateswara Rao and other officials were present.
