Reacting positively to the appeals of inmates of orphanages for certificates of identity District Collector V. Seshadri said that he would ask a team of officials to visit the orphanages and do the needful.
Over 200 children from a number of orphanages in the district and some from other parts of the state took out a rally from Jagadamba centre to the Collectorate here on Wednesday appealing that they be called ‘children in need of parental care’ and that the orphanages be called ‘Parental Care Centres’.
When a delegation, comprising managements of the orphanages and some inmates, sought an audience with him in his chambers, the Collector stepped out to meet them and talk to them. The delegation wanted the Collector to implement an old Government Order that declared the orphans as SCs and bestowed the benefits available to the SCs on them.
The inmates of orphanages were facing a difficulty in getting admission into schools and colleges as they do not have proper certificates of identity, they were neither being given Aadhaar cards nor ration cards, the delegation told the Collector. This was causing immense hardship to these children, they said.
The Collector asked the delegation to draw up a list of all the orphanages in the district and said that he would appoint a team of officials to visit each of these institutions and do the needful to do justice to these children.
