The Sri Jaya Naama Samvastaram should do good to the people in the district, Collector S. Solomon Arokia Raj wished during the Ugadi celebrations at the Collectorate here on Monday.
The Collector, along with Joint Collector Pravin Kumar and district officials and employees, participated in the celebrations. Panchanga Sravanam by pundits Rampa Diwakara Sarma and Pemmaraju Ramabhadra Murthy explained the events expected to happen during the New Year. Poet and writer Ganti Murali, who is an officer of the Visakha rural bank, explained the significance of the festival.
Pundits from Simhachalam Devasthanam Kapilavayi Venkateswara Sastry and Vedula Ravishankar Prasad Sharma blessed the Collector, Joint Collector and the audience. Pilla Ramana Murthy compered the programme.
Kavi Sammelanam
As many as 43 poets and writers participated in the Kavi Sammelanam organised by Sagari, the Visakhapatnam Port’s cultural body.
VPT Deputy Chairman G.V.L. Satyakumar hoped that the port, its employees and people of Visakhapatnam would witness more growth and prosperity in the year. Senior CAO D. Ramana Murthy spoke on Ugadi and its significance, quoting verses from famous poets. Deputy Traffic Manager and vice-president of Sagari B. Ratnasekhara Rao presided.
Noted writer and former HoD of Telugu of BVK College D.V. Surya Rao conducted the Kavi Sammelanam.
