Several officers joined the strike by employees of Dredging Corporation of India on Thursday in protest against the Centre’s decision to offload 73.47% of its stake in the public sector company. The employees, who were on second day of their 3-day strike, raised slogans against the decision to privatise the profit-making company.
They have threatened to intensify it if their demand to withdraw the decision was not conceded. The employees are keeping their option open on timing of their indefinite strike after serving the notice to the management. Meanwhile, the management held talks with some of the executives and appealed them to cooperate in ensuring normal functioning of the organisation.
DCI Non-Executive Employees’ Union honorary president V.D. Padmanabha Raju said despite their representation the Centre had not withdrawn its decision for strategic sale of DCI.
He said national security would be at stake if DCI was handed over to private hands as the company specialised in dredging in all the major ports and naval bases of Indian Navy.
