Be it the fitness value or a multitude of health benefits the regimen offers or just plunge into the waters to get away from the sweltering heat, many find swimming as a much sought-after sport these days.

Though the number of registrations for swimming classes has been swelling, parents, who wish to introduce their children to an outdoor sport, find that the city has very limited options when it comes to swimming and say that the facility is far from satisfactory.

As soon as the long summer vacation began, Mouli Tulasi, a mother of five-year-old son, enrolled him for a swimming class. She recommends swimming as a great calorie burner and an effective workout. “When my doctor said that my son is little obese, the first thing I did is to train him in the water exercise. Unfortunately, the pools that I enquired are either overcrowded or too expensive. That’s when I approached Aqua Sports Complex. Though the price here is affordable, each batch accommodates more learners,” she says.

Charge nominal

With monthly charge as nominal as Rs. 250 per child, the pool maintained by GVMC at the complex provides an affordable package for children. However, poor maintenance turns out to be dampening the spirit of swimmers.

D. Taruna, a resident of Sithammadhara, has a similar experience to share. “When my kids went to the Aqua Sports Complex, rashes and itchy skin used to be a common problem they used to face. That’s when I moved to Vaisakhi Sports Park, Muralinagar. Though there are no infections so far to complain about, the pool is extremely crowded during summer,” she observes.
