Nutrition support campaign launched in Vizag's tribal areas

A nutrition support programme supported by the UNICEF will be launched in the tribal areas of Visakhapatnam district on Wednesday.

With efforts to create awareness failing, the UNICEF in association with the government agencies and partner NGO Nature will focus on improving the health condition among the marginalised sections in the Agency areas.

The programme will be inaugurated at Padmapuram Gardens, Araku Valley. The programme will comprise Anganwadi system, nutrition demonstrations, food security, kitchen gardens, ‘Kalajatha’; campaigns through folk artistes and extensive capacity building to community and functionaries with the active collaboration of line departments, mass media and the Department of Women & Child Welfare.

Senior nutrition specialist from the UNICEF Lakshmi Bhavani will offer her expertise. The district administration, Integrated Tribal Development Agency and Women and Child Welfare Department are actively involved in the programme.

The purpose of the drive is to ensure reach of ICDS services, Indiramma Amruthahastham and Maarpu to all sections of the tribal pockets .
