Visakhapatnam topped other districts in the State in the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), and Chief Minister K. Rosaiah congratulated Collector J. Syamala Rao during a videoconference with Collectors from Hyderabad on Thursday.
The Chief Minister appreciated the district for climbing to the first place during March (in the implementation of the NREGS) after finishing fourth during February and standing at 14th position during January.
Visakhapatnam stood first by creating jobs for 2.71 lakh people and completing the works with quality and making payments for 99 per cent of the beneficiaries, Mr. Rosaiah said.
The Chief Minister appreciated Mr. Syamala Rao for introducing the biometric mobile muster system for noting attendance of beneficiaries.
This method had been mentioned during the Assembly session and the Government was thinking of introducing it all over the State, he said.
“Visakhapatnam showed that a district can gain top place if its Collector personally supervises implementation of a programme with dedication. Other districts must take Visakhapatnam as an example,” Mr. Rosaiah said during the videoconference.
Minister for Rural Development and IKP Vatti Vasantha Kumar, while congratulating Visakhapatnam district, wanted those districts that were lagging behind in the implementation of NREGS to follow the methods adopted in Visakhapatnam to achieve good result. Frequent reviews could help in eliminating problems and faults, he added.
