Concerned over safety of children going to school by bus, an Intermediate student has come up with an upgraded version of ‘My Children Bus Tracker’ app.

Not content with the earlier model that had limited features, Adurthi Surya Chandra Pavan, young app developer, has incorporated more features to the location tracking app that now caters to parents, school management and bus drivers.

User-friendly

With a private school already using the app for the bus tracking, Mr. Pavan says the tool is user-friendly and cost-effective that gives notifications to users.

“From the point of pick up to the destination, the real time location tracking app is available for Android users. Parents will also be able to view the real-time location of the bus, receive alerts and trace the location of the bus on the Google maps,” he says

The modified ‘My Children Bus Tracker’ has three apps – ‘My Children Bus Tracker’ for parents, ‘My Children Bus Driver Console’ for bus drivers and ‘My Children Bus Management’ for school management. “When we met Deputy Transport Commissioner S. Venkateswara Rao, he suggested incorporating additional features to the earlier version of the bus tracker app and hence developed the upgraded one,” says Mr. Pavan.

Apart from receiving notifications of children getting picked up from various points to school and dropped back at home, bus drivers or attendants can also send an alert to the school management in case of any bus breakdown or accident.

Supported by his father A. Lakshmana Rao, APEDDCL employee, Pavan says it took him almost a month to develop the GPS-based tracking app. “There is no need to install any GPS device that costs approximately ₹7,000 to ₹10,000 per unit. Android users can download it from Google Play Store following simple instructions,” says the self-taught app developer.

Based on the representation made by Pavan to Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu a couple of months ago, the Ministry of Human Resource Development directed the School Education Department to consider the introduction of the newly-developed app in schools.
