“When I was a student, participating in extra-curricular activities made more sense than focusing on studies. Distractions impede the process of learning. Multi-tasking is definitely a laudable effort but not at the cost of your studies,” Tamil Nadu Governor Konijeti Rosaiah stated.

Recalling his childhood days, at a combined programme ‘Champions of Andhra University 2013’ hosted by Vizag Development Council and Rushikonda Information Technology Park Association at Sir CR Reddy Convocation Hall here on Wednesday, he said: “There is no substitute for hard work and dedication to succeed in any chosen field. Stay focused on your education, rest will fall in place by itself.”

It was the most memorable occasion for 200 meritorious students, from diverse segments of Andhra University, who were honoured amid cheering crowd.

Union Minister Daggubati Purandeswari, who attended the programme as guest of honour, underlined the significance of value-based education system. “Education is the only means to eliminate the darkness of ignorance and earn respect to stand up in your life. However, along with academic excellence, there is a need to strengthen moral values among the youth.

And it starts from home. Parents and teachers should make a determined effort to enhance these values among children that contribute to their personality development,” she said.

Later, Ms. Purandeswari announced that she had suggested that the Port Trust authorities sanction Rs.1 crore, under its CSR drive, to improve the infrastructure of AU. The funds would be released in two phases. She also added that she intended to allocate Rs.10 lakh, under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme, for the development of NSS building.

Vice-Chairman of AU G.S.N. Raju lauded the collective initiative taken by the organisers to encourage outstanding students in such a grand manner.

President of the association P. Vishnu Kumar Raju and vice-president of the council O. Naresh Kumar were some of the invitees who felt that the forum opened door for the toppers to exhibit their expertise and attract best placement in any of the leading companies.
