Avoid the urge to go abroad as there are good institutions in India that are on par with overseas institutions, said president of the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) Prasad Thotakura who also talked frankly about why the Indian students are facing problems in the US and other countries.
Mr. Prasad, who is the COO of ekNazar.com spoke on “education and social entrepreneurship-a comparison between India and the USA” as part of GITAM University's distinguished COO lecture series on Thursday.
Lack of proper guidance and selection of universities was resulting in lost time, money and effort besides ending up with a useless degree, he said. “Degenerating human values are causing negative attitude while “beating the system” and “winning-at-any-cost” and resulting in bringing bad name to all other Indians”, he regretted.
Mr. Prasad was of the opinion that if the Indian educational institutions develop “Finishing School” system of imparting employable soft skills the other nations would depend more on our human resources. Every year around 495,000 technical graduates, nearly 2.3 million other graduates and over 300,000 post-graduates are produced in India, he said.
Care-free attitude coupled with false sense of security of being among fellow Indian students was resulting in fatal consequences, Mr. Prasad said.
On the prevailing conditions in the US, he said a two-year programme would cost around 50,000 dollars but employability was only 25 per cent. The TANA president wanted the coming generations to give equal importance to social entrepreneurship to serve the society. He briefed about the initiative taken by TANA in the US for Indian students.
