Nine injured as auto hits parapet

A major mishap was averted when an autorickshaw coming down the steep gradient road near Novotel Hotel, crashed into the parapet wall of the beach, after its brakes failed on Wednesday afternoon.

Nine persons, including the driver, sustained injuries. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) L. Arjun, eights persons were travelling in the auto after attending a wedding function. “As per the version of the driver, the brakes of the vehicle failed and he rammed into the wall after jumping over the speed breaker,” said Mr. Arjun.

All the injured were admitted into a hospital for treatment, and were said to be out of danger.

Teacher dies

Hindi Teacher of Delhi Public School, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, Pantula Padmaja died on the spot when a tipper hit the auto in which she was travelling from Gajuwaka to Railway Station around 4.45 a.m on Wednesday ., near Naval Dockyard Vijayanagar gate.

In total seven persons were travelling in the auto when the tipper coming out of the godowns located in that area hit the auto. Another woman suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the tipper was taken into custody.
