Tourism Department is focussing more on promoting tourism in the largest city in the State and has lined up a number of new projects in the city and the district, Special Chief Secretary (Tourism) Chandana Khan has said.
Apart from developing a night bazaar, the department is planning to establish a theme park based on revolutionary freedom fighter Alluri Sitaramaraju and a Tribal Museum at Shilparamam – Jatara, she told the media here on Monday. These are part of the 100-day programme of the Tourism Department.
In view of the increasing demand for flexible timings for shopping and entertainment, the Tourism Department is setting up a night bazaar at Shilparamam, which would be open from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. The facilities include shopping arena, entertainment and zone for children and food courts.
Tourist spotsThe Tourism Department was planning to develop tourist spots at places associated with the Rebellion and last days of Alluri Sitaramaraju, especially at Mampa, where he was shot dead and Krishnadevipeta (KD Peta) where he was cremated. A grand memorial will be built at KD Peta. An Alluri Sitaramaraju sculpture park depicting the important events in his life and a tribal museum would be set up at Shilparamam here, she said.
“With the CRZ guidelines set to get more stringent, the department is planning development of parks and landscaping on the beaches. On the Rushikonda Beach, the Tourism Department is working on setting up temporary structures and parks,” she explained.
A national convention on Buddhism would be conducted by the Department of Archaeology and Museums in the city in September to deliberate on conservation, preservation and development of tourist amenities at the Buddhist sites in and around the city.
