New syllabus for CA course to be launched in November

ICAI will also the exam in old syllabus for another five years

July 24, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:05 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The new syllabus for Chartered Accountancy course would be launched in November and most likely by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, president Institute of Chartered Accountants of India M Devaraja Reddy said.

Speaking to the media after the inauguration of two-day ‘Dhyuti’ AP State-level Chartered Accountants’ Conference 2016 here, Mr Devaraja Reddy said the new upgraded syllabus would take it on par with international standards. The new syllabus was devised after a comprehensive study of similar courses across the world by the ICAI Committee for Review of Educational Training.

“Unfortunately a number of coaching institutes are using this as a ruse to lure students by creating an apprehension that this year would be the last opportunity to appear for exams in old syllabus,” he said and pointed out that the ICAI would continue to hold the exam in old syllabus for another five years. The exams would be held in both the syllabus simultaneously, he said.

Training is an integral part of ICAI and there is no need for students to go to coaching institutes, he said.

The examinations are based on practical experience and not on book knowledge, therefore it is important that the students should undergo practical training, the ICAI president said. ICAI has established a cloud campus and offers its course through e-classrooms for convenience of the students. The students can listen to the lectures at their convenience, he added.

‘Double entry’

The Indian Railways proposes to shift its accounting system to ‘Double Entry Accounting’ and Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had asked ICAI to take up the work, the pilot project of Ajmer Division has been completed. Double entry system would bring in greater transparency in the accounts and bring clarity in the asset holding.
