New DIG takes charge

June 04, 2013 11:29 am | Updated 12:24 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The primary duty of the police is prevention of crime and maintenance of law and order and these would continue to top the priority list of the police in Visakhapatnam Range, its new DIG P. Umapathi said.

He took charge from Swati Lakra here on Monday. Addressing the media after taking charge, he said that prevention of crime would be given top priority, especially crime against women and children, in the wake of the recent crimes and the increasing reports of such incidents.

He hoped his earlier experience would help him contribute to reduction in white collar crimes in the region and said that it would be another priority area for him. The other priority would be traffic, especially, since a major National Highway passed through a large area in the three districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.
