After gathering inputs over a year from professional women of different walks of life, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has come up with a new concept of Indian Women Network (IWN) to understand challenges faced by a career woman.

The initiative aims at eliminating obstacles confronted by working women and provides them a network channel where they can express their views and find solutions. IWN focuses on reaching out larger community of women through providing technical and professional skills, how to balance work-life, awareness on domestic violence and gender sensitivity programmes along with other orientation programmes. Chairwoman of IWN of southern region Suchitra Ella gave a presentation on the objectives of the network and explained how a person can stay in touch with the group.

Additional Commissioner of GVMC M. Janaki said: “As the opportunities for women have gone up, the challenges have also increased simultaneously. Most women do not speak about sexual harassment at work place and 90 per cent of them prefer to be silent. I feel IWN provides a platform for those who want to voice out their opinions, share their experiences and take a stand. The channel also helps one meet professional challenges and demands.”

Retired managing director of State Bank of Hyderabad Renu Challu briefed about her 38 years of professional experience and the challenges she faced then. Later, there was also a panel discussion where executive director of Vignan Schools Anila Narla, psychiatrist Rekha Dutt, vice chairperson and correspondent of Mrs. A.V.N. College Indrani Jagga Row, chairperson of Young Indians Vizag chapter Poonam Shah Srinath and chairperson of IWN Vanitha Datla discussed on what it means to be a career woman – a new paradigm in 21 century.

Among others, chairman of CII Vizag zone G. Sambasiva Rao, CEO of Symbiosys Technologies O. Naresh Kumar also participated. One can join the network by getting registered with the committee members or by visiting the website indianwomennetwork.in.
