Need to protect Telugu language stressed

Paravasthu Peetham celebrates ‘Matrubhasha Dinotsavam’

The importance of communicating in Telugu language and protecting it was stressed by the speakers at various meetings, conducted as part of ‘Matrubhasha Dinotsavam’ at various places in the city on Tuesday.

Paravasthu Padya Peetham organised the celebrations at the Telugu Thalli statue at Maddilapalem junction. The participants raised slogans seeking the protection of local languages. Andhra University Vice Chancellor G. Nageswara Rao, Registrar V. Umamaheswara Rao, Pydah Krishna Prasad of Pydah Educational Institutions, S. Vijay Kumar of Vijay Nirman Company, Peetham president Phanisayana Suri, noted physician Kootikuppala Surya Rao, litterateurs Vedula Subrahmanya Sastry, V. Simmanna, D.V. Surya Rao, Peri Ravi Kumar and Jaladi Vijaya were among those who garlanded the statue and paid tributes.

Students rendered the song: ‘Ma Telugu Thalliki malle poodanda…’

At a separate programme at the Gayatri Vidya Parishad MLBT School at East Point Colony, Principal K. Madhuravani said that neglecting the mother tongue was a threat to one’s own existence.
