Political leaders are suffering from a credibility crisis and should seriously introspect, Official Language Commission Chairman Mandali Buddha Prasad said at the presentation of Kopparapu Kavula Pratibha Puraskaram to noted Carnatic vocalist Nedunuri Krishna Murthy here on Monday.

In an apparent reference to the ongoing agitation over the bifurcation of the State, Mr. Buddha Prasad, an integrationist, said while political leaders were afraid of facing the people as they lost their confidence, people were after employees who now they believed.

Kopparapu Kavula Kalapeetham, founded by Maa Sarma, has so far felicitated 11 eminent personalities with the award.

Sadguru Sivananda Murthy of Bhimili Anandavanam conferred the award on Nedunuri. He released Subbraya Satakam, a work of Kopparapu kavulu, with commentary of Mellachervu Bhanuprasada Rao.

Mr. Buddha Prasad said the Kopparapu brothers distinguished themselves with their literary works and put the Telugu poem on a pedestal. He regretted that the Telugu people failed to build for themselves a collective cultural persona.

Literature and music endowed people with values, he observed and language, literature, and poetry shaped the personality of people, Mr. Buddha Prasad said adding Kopparapu Kavulu endeavoured to do it. He complimented the ‘peetham’ for taking up what the government should have been doing through academies, now defunct.

‘Mahasahasravadhani’ Garikapati Narasimha Rao said Telugu culture and literature would bring people of Andhra and Telangana together.

All-India Managing Committee member of Builders’ Association of India Cheruvu Ramakotaiah spoke.

Peetham founder Maa Sarma presented a report on the activities of the peetham. Alamuru Radha Kumari presented a Carnatic vocal concert in a musical tribute to Nedunuri.
