Several sports organisations in the district celebrated the National Sports Day on the occasion of birth anniversary of hockey legend Dhyanchand.
A rally of sportspersons and children was flagged off by Conservator of Forests Johar Babu at the VUDA Park. MD of CMR group M.V. Ramana was present.
The rally reached Andhra University gymnasium where AU Rector P.V.G.D. Prasada Reddy garlanded the statute of Dhyanchand. Director of Sports of AU M. Syambabu presided over a meeting held later.
Senior sports administrators S. Kodandaramaiah, P.V.G.R. Naidu, G.V. Raviraju, T.S.R. Prasad, D. Nageswara Rao, K. Suryanarayana, A. Jagannadha Rao, S. Appa Rao, R. Venkata Rao, Ch. Devadanam, former Olympian M.V. Manikyalu, Director of Sports of GVMC Y. Srinivasa Rao, and Krishna Reddy of AU participated.
Prof. Prasada Reddy on behalf of the organisers, felicitated boxers J. Bhaskar, A. Punyavathi, S. Marthamma and K. Shyam Kumar and roller-skaters Avani B. Panchal and Mohnisha Baid, who represented India in international meets and won medals and journalist and adventure sportsman N. Nageswara Rao.
