National Mathematics Day celebrated

With an aim to bring awareness on the contributions made by the renowned mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, schools and colleges across the city celebrated National Mathematics Day on Monday. Lecturers at Prism Degree and PG College underlined the importance of getting the fundamentals right and applying simple calculation techniques in day-to-day life. Secretary and correspondent of the college D. Satyanarayana Reddy, HoD of Mathematics A. Lakshman spoke on the number of career opportunities available in the domain. P.E.N. School conducted Maths Speed Child Contest-2014. Out of 800 students who took part in the preliminary round, 100 participants were selected for the finals. The competition was held in two categories – juniors (Classes V and VI) and seniors (Classes VII to IX). School principal and correspondent Anita Pereira, director Srinivas, staff and students were present.

Bhashyam Public School at MVP Colony paid tributes to the great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. Quiz contest, mathematics exhibition and prize distribution ceremony were part of the day’s programme. Little Champs Headmistress Prasanna Kumari, vice-principal Nagesh and school in-charge Anjineyulu, among others participated.

Students of Sri Satya Sai Vidya Vihar organised ‘Ganit Week’ that began on December 16. State president of Sri Satya Sai Seva organisation S.G. Chalam, school Principal A. Kausalya and the staff lauded the efforts made by the students during the week. Ramakrishna School donned a festive look as its students made merry on the occasion of Srinivasa Ramanujan’s 127 birth anniversary.

‘Meelo Evaru Ramanujan?’

A new contest christened as ‘Meelo Evaru Ramanujan?’ was held at Vignan Vidyalayam High School. About 2,000 students from various schools took part in the contest which was held in three categories. Institute’s director Aruna Pappu gave away prizes to the winners.
