Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in a bid to endear himself to the farming community reasserted that he would make farming a profitable proposition and announced two more methods for the benefit of farmers.

All reservoirs would be linked with pipelines, which he did not explain in detail, and officials would go to villages on every Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss with farmers what should be done for improving farming and again on every first and 16 day of the month a review meeting would be held. “I will visit a district every week before the season (kharif) ends and will discuss your needs,” Mr Naidu said while addressing a garthering of some thousands of farmers from Chodavaram and Madugula areas at the Government High School ground here on Friday.

Launching a programme Polam Pilustondi in which programmes are included beneficial to farmers and farming, the Chief Minster said he should pay his gratitude to farmers. The farmer should know his strength, must discuss how to improve yield, adopt good practices and stand out among farmers of not only of India but also of the world. He wanted Andhra Pradesh to be No. 1 in the country in production of agri-based products.

Mr. Naidu, who came nearly two hours behind schedule for this agriculture extension programme after visiting Anakapalle for a darshan of goddess Nookalamma, and interacting with people at Tummapala, Gandhavaram and Gajapathinagaram, spoke for 45 minutes. He assured people that loan waiver would happen and explained how much trouble he was taking for the same. The Polavaram project would be completed and within five years coastal districts would receive copious water. He spoke about the many programmes and schemes his government was contemplating or implementing.

He welcomed the challenge thrown by Telangana Chief Minister in competing in development and asserted that he would prove better. After five years people would understand who has developed his respective state. In future Telugu Desam would take the responsibility of developing both States, he said.

Local MLA K.S.N.S. Raju presided and requested the Chief Minister to grant degree colleges, roads, etc. and to improve irrigation facilities. Minister for Panchayati Raj Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu also listed the needs of the area. Minister for Agricuilture P. Pulla Rao explained the importance being given by the Chief Minister to agriculture and the loan waiver. MP M. Srinivasa Rao also spoke. Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, several MLAs and party leaders, Collector N. Yuvaraj and others participated.
