Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday made a scathing attack on a section of media for launching a campaign against land-pooling for developing a new riverfront capital region.

Addressing investors at a meeting held here to mark the launching of Infrastructure Mission, he said instead of appreciating the decision of farmers to surrender 33,000 acres ‘voluntarily’ under the land-pooling scheme offered by the government, the media were continuing a malicious campaign with a ‘hidden agenda.’

Mr. Naidu said despite several obstacles, they would go ahead with the development of a world-class city in the capital region near Vijayawada. “It is an amazing experience for us as we have a lot of plans for the new capital region. The farmers will be benefited a lot as they will get 25 per cent of land given by them as developed plots,” he stated.

On involving Singapore to develop master plan for the capital region, he wondered why that also was being criticised by some big papers. “Singapore is known for its integrity and sincerity. We are involving Singapore Government for preparing the master plan. The capital region will be developed through an open bidding. It’s wrong to state in a section of the media that we have offered them 7,000 acres as part of a deal,” he said.

Exuding confidence that the Centre would release sufficient funds for development of capital region as per its commitment, he said they were pursuing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release funds at the earliest. He said they were expecting $30 billion investment in the new capital region in the next decade.
