Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu left for Hyderabad on Sunday after personally supervising the relief work since Monday last after the very severe cyclone Hudhud wrought havoc to the city and would return two days later.
By the time he returns, all work regarding restoration of services, except the power supply would be completed and even power supply would see 90 per cent restoration, Mr. Naidu said on Sunday. Power is being supplied on an alternative system and permanent system would be in place in a week or 10 days, he assured.
He would be monitoring relief work for the next two days from Hyderabad and would not allow any slow down, Mr. Naidu said when reporters said people would not believe that the work would continue at the same pace if he was not around. Once the relief work and resumption of services were completed he would concentrate on preventing pollution and bringing back green cover over the city.
There was great cooperation from the people of north coastal region which suffered the damage, he said and wanted them to continue to march ahead with determination and provide inspiration to the future generations. He also appreciated the employees and said 95 per cent of them have performed well. A supervisor was still on duty at 2 a.m. on duty as he inspected some areas, Mr. Naidu said.
He assured people of Visakhapatnam that the city would revive itself and remain as the financial and industrial capital of AP nerve centre of the State.
He recalled how much anxiety and fear he and others in Hyderabad felt while watching on the television the destruction being caused by the cyclone and contact was lost on Sunday afternoon, and went on to explain the relief measures that have been taken on a massive scale by bringing in material and men from different States apart from other districts of AP.
“The entire administration is here except Chief Secretary who is monitoring the work from Hyderabad”, the Chief Minster said.
Water and electricity supply was restored at many places and food was distributed free of cost, vegetables were being provided at a low cost and normal milk supply was ensured, he said about various relief measures.
Beach walk todayA walk on the beach, titled ‘Tufanni Jayiddam’ (let’s conquer the cyclone) will be organised on the beach road on Monday morning to instil confidence among the people.
