Nagar keertan and presentation of Punjab’s martial art form gatka formed part of the 548th Guru Nanak jayanti celebrated by the Sikhs in the city on Sunday.

Gurudwara Sadh Sangat reverberated with devotional hymns as the devout started off their procession from the shrine to various parts of the city.

Most men, women and children, dressed in white and blue, walked all along the procession holding orange-coloured flags as a mark of respect to Guru Nanak. Guru Granth Sahib was carried in a well-decorated truck and a team of singers recited bhajans all along the route.

The procession passed through RTC Complex, Dabagardens, Jagadamba junction, Beach Road and Siripuram before culminating at Gurudwara. The passers-by were thrilled to see a team of youngsters wielding swords and performing gatka . Gurudwara Sadh Sangat witnessed a steady stream of devotees as they made their way to the place to pay their respect to the founder of the Sikh religion.
