Engineers of the Irrigation Department in North Andhra are opposing the reported preparation of seniority list for promotion allegedly in violation of the zonal system.

Uttarandhra Engineers Association wants promotion as deputy executive engineer (DEE) at zone-level and has opposed any move to make it a State-level post.

In a letter to the Chief Minister’s office, they said the seniority issue of 1978 and 1979 batches was settled by the Supreme Court in its judgment in February 2016.

They said in spite of the judgment a new methodology was being adopted for promotions and alleged that it was to benefit engineers of Zones II and III. Asserting that there was no complexity in implementation of the apex court judgment, they saw no need for constituting a committee.

The association found fault with the reported recommendation that states that a senior shall be given first preference to promotion to ensure that no junior batch assistant executive engineers (AEE) will be promoted to the post of the cadre of deputy executive engineer until senior batch of AEEs in all zones are promoted as DEEs.
