The Congress-ruled municipality has miserably failed to provide basic amenities to people of the fort town during its five-year term that ended on Thursday, said CPI (M) town committee secretary Reddi Sankara Rao in a statement on Thursday.
He said the promise to execute underground drainage system before the elections to the municipality in 2005 was not kept. Though rainfall during this monsoon was in excess, the municipality continued to supply drinking water on alternate days.
Sanitation
On sanitation in the newly-formed residential areas, he said that the number of sanitation workers appointed on contact in place of retired personnel were inadequate to draft them for work.
The community latrines built in the past were in disuse due to poor maintenance.
The ‘pavala vaddi' scheme was not implemented for Self-Help Groups.
Though house-site pattas were distributed to 3000 women in Gajularega, 1000 in Lankapatnam and 700 in another village, the municipality failed to give them possession of land. But, it promoted land-grabbing by its men in the town, Mr. Sankar Rao alleged.
TDP criticism
At a separate press conference, V.S. Prasad, TDP floor leader in the municipality, said that Chaiperson Avanapu Suri Babu had failed on all fronts and he brought disrepute to the civic body by his continuous outburst at officials.
Poor administration
P. Ramakrishna, party town committee president, said that approval of several works on the last day of the term showed his poor administrative skills.
