Says he is not getting nod of heroes from his family for the film

Veteran film producer D. Rama Naidu’s zest and zeal for films is simply insatiable. His enthusiasm is infectious and after producing 130 films in almost all Indian languages and being honoured with the coveted Dada Saheb Phalke award, he is eager to make yet another “ambitious” film.

At 77, he was at his affable best mingling with unknown, wet-behind-the-ear actors who donned the greasepaint for the first time making them feel at home at the inaugural of the film ‘Boochadu’.

In a brief interaction with the media after sounding the clapper for the muhurat of the film at the Vinayaka temple at the foothill of Rama Naidu studio at Rushikonda on Monday, he said he was not getting the nod of heroes for a film starring his family members. “It’s my ambition to make the film under Suresh banner. But I am looking for a good subject, which is the most important thing for me,” said the prolific producer who made name with hits like ‘Srikrishna Tulabharam’, ‘Ramudu-Bheemudu’ and ‘Premnagar’ and earned an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records. His son Venkatesh and grandson Rana are heroes.

Known as ‘Movie Mogul’, he sounds a word of caution to the new producers to plan well and keep script ready telling them in spite of all the care his own recent films turned out to be big flops. “I am all the more a little nervous as I am sounding the clapper for a film for the first time at my own studio and how the film might turn out,” he said.

On the development of the studio, he said it started in 2007 “by climbing all the hills” but the returns were not commensurate with the investment. All the facilities for making films were being made available. Editing is there and dubbing will soon come, he said. His son Sureshbabu is planning resorts on one side of the studios.

Even as he was participating in the launch of the film, a steady stream of visitors made their way to the studio to have a look.

Managing Director of CMR Group Mavuri Venkataramana participated in the launch.
