The TDP has objected to any move to transport of coal by road from the general cargo berth in Visakhapatnam Port. TDP leader and former minister Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy, Urban president Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar and Harshavardhan at a press conference on Monday opposed any move to transporting coal by road stating it would bring back the pollution to One Town area negating the installation of green terminal in the outer harbour. They said following the A.P. High Court ruling in a writ petition filed by Vizag Sea Port Limited in which Vizag General Cargo Berth Private Limited impleaded itself the proposal would now go the AP Pollution Control Board for its approval. They said the board meeting scheduled for Tuesday should not give approval for any such move and if necessary should fight it legally as it was the board’s duty to prevent pollution. The high court had ruled that following the amicable settlement of the issue between the two parties and the respondent Visakhapatnam Port Trust the interim arrangements are to continue pending completion of the dredging operations in the inner harbour.
