Motorists, especially those commuting on two-wheelers dread the Sankara Matham road, thanks to the innumerable potholes and bad condition of the road.
Ever since the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) left the road unattended after completing the laying of underground drainage pipeline about two years ago, the road condition has been deteriorating with every passing day.
The GVMC has left one side of the road from the National Highway to Diamond Park almost uncovered with bitumen top. And because of this, there had been instance of earth caving in at certain parts in the last two years, says B. Satyanarayana, a resident of the locality.
Along with this, the authorities concerned have not bothered to repair the road. And the result is innumerable potholes and huge chunks of bitumen giving away, exposing the rocks.
Accident-pronePractically, only five to seven feet of the road is motorable, all along the stretch, and this has increased the chances of accidents, says Ch. Apparao, owner of a grocery store. “The skidding of two-wheelers has become a regular feature,” he adds.
Things become worse, when it rains. The potholes get covered and it is a dreadful experience driving down the road.
