To further improve its solid waste management and clear the garbage from streets and efficiently transport it, GVMC is getting more compactors, new small compactors, bobcat vehicles and dumper bins.

Besides the 10 compactors it now has it will get 10 more of 15 cubic meters (CUM) capacity to carry solid waste from its mini sewage farm at Mudasarlova to Kapuluppada dump-yard.

Each of the compactors will account for garbage carried by three tippers thereby saving fuel and number of trips to the corporation.

Five of the additional compactors have already been pressed into service and another five will be on the roads as soon as drivers are appointed, says Chief Medical Officer (Health) A. Hemanth.

Once all the new compactors are operations the corporation will be able to take off 20 to 25 tippers. Besides, the corporation will be getting 50 small compactors of 6 CUM capacity. They will be utilised to empty the dumper bins and transport the garbage to the mini sewage farm. Apart from the present 1000 bins, another 500 will also be kept at various places. It will get 10 more skid-and-steer loader machine to lift garbage in addition to the 10 it already has.

The arrival of the new machines, being funded by the Swachh Andhra Corporation under Swachh Bharat Mission, will help GVMC clear garbage from the streets and from its mini sewage farm faster and keep the city clean, according to the CMO (H).

Swachh Survekshan

With the Swachh Survekshan going on the deployment of new vehicles will stand in good stead. GVMC has already converted the 130 mini-trucks it has into compartmentalised carriers of wet and dry waste, says Dr. Hemanth.
