The Ministry of Environment and Forests has issued Terms of Reference to NTPC to conduct environmental studies for its 1000x4 MW supercritical power plant proposed at Pudimadaka, about 50 km from here.
The expert appraisal committee under the Ministry at its meeting held in January considered the revised layout plan submitted by it and gave clearance to conduct the EIA study.
It maybe recalled the committee earlier had asked NTPC reconsider the location of the project envisaged with an investment of Rs.20,000 crore in an area of 1,200 acres following objections over location of a creek within 100 metres and falling in high-flood zone/tsunami prone and salt pan areas.
Tenders invited
An official release stated on Wednesday that NTPC had already invited tenders for the main plant equipment. NTPC was in the process of establishing 4X1000 MW imported coal based plant in the land allotted by Andhra Pradesh Government in Atchutapuram and Rambilli mandals.
“Tenders are already invited for the main plant equipment and NTPC is taking up this project on fast track mode,” the release said.
This is the first time in the country that NTPC is executing four units of 1000 MW coal based units in the country with supercritical technology to ensure more efficiency with drastic reduction in emissions.
