The youth in the city seems to be evincing interest in the ‘Modi for PM’ campaign kicked off by BJP senior leader M. Venkaiah Naidu here on Saturday.
“There is so much hype in the social media about Modi for PM and tea vendor (chaiwala) jibe. Hence, I came here to listen to the saffron brigade to find out why Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi should be made next Prime Minister,” pointed out Rajesh Murthy, a management student.
A motley crowd of around 2,000 people attended the first ‘Modi for PM’ meeting addressed by senior BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu and former Union Minister U.V. Krishnam Raju at the A.S. Raja College grounds.
“My presence here does not mean I will vote for BJP. I have come here to listen to BJP’s viewpoint as to why Modi should be made Prime Minister,” K. Rama Rao, a youth from MVP, said.
Mr. Naidu explained how his party supported the Telangana Bill as part of his party’s known stand on division and extracted a specific answer from the UPA Government on according special category status to residual State of AP and backward area status for North Andhra and Rayalaseema.
‘Defective bill’Calling for ‘gatam gatah,’ he said now since division was just a formality, people from both regions should forget their differences and focus on development. He accused the Congress of lacking commitment to grant statehood to Telangana and doing justice to Seemandhra. “Because of our fight in Rajya Sabha and insistence in lieu of our support the Congress was forced to promise a package to Seemandhra,” he said and declared that Mr. Modi during his visit to the State would make it public plans to develop both States.”
Mr. Naidu said he and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley had told Prime Minister Manmohan Singh clearly that the Bill would not stand legal scrutiny for not addressing several issues like reimbursement of amount towards salaries, pension and day-to-day management between notified and appointed dates.
