A model hawkers' zone will be set up as a pilot project in each of the six zones and probably they will come into being by January 26.
The persons whose kiosks have been removed for encroaching on to roads or located on drains will be allotted shops in the zones. All shops will be similar and allotted for selling vegetables, chicken, mutton, and fruits.
Municipal Commissioner B. Ramanjaneyulu made it clear that he was not against petty traders but wanted them to go about their business in an organised manner. He directed zone commissioners to survey and collect parking fee from vehicles of various organisations if they were parked in non-objectionable areas. Parking should not be allowed in objectionable areas.
Mayor's directive
Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao on Wednesday ordered the removal of plaques set up without obtaining any permission.
He had a discussion with Commissioner B. Ramanjaneyulu on the unofficial laying of foundation stones and inaugurations setting up plaques and causing protocol problems. If plaques were set up by the persons concerned again, a police case should be booked against them, the Mayor said. At a review on revenue collection, Mr. Janardhana Rao said only Rs.92 crore of the Rs.194 crore demand was realised and only Rs.10 crore of vacant land tax was collected against a demand of Rs.40 crore and as the financial year was coming to an end, efforts should be made to step the collection.
