A mock drill of bomb deactivation was conducted at Visakha Container Terminal on Thursday jointly with Visakhapatnam Port, City Police and CISF.

This was part of an exercise to test preparedness to tackle any exigency. This was started with an emergency siren blowing to alert the staff and invoke the Emergency Response Procedure. State police, VPT and CISF bomb disposal squads acted swiftly and launched combing operation with the help of sniffer dogs. The sniffer dogs were taken around the vital installations initially and found the bomb near sub station area. Upon finding the bomb disposal squad approached and deactivated the explosive device.

The highly professional way in which the bomb was detected and deactivated in a very short time received appreciations from all and also reassured the public about the adequacy and ability of the authorities to tackle such situations, a VCT official said.
