As much as 92.38 per cent polling was recorded in the election to the Legislative Council from the Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam teachers’ constituency on Thursday. This was much higher to the 84.46 per cent recorded during the 2007 elections.
There are 14,427 voters spread over the three districts and they exercised their franchise in 123 polling booths. Polling was held between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and went on peacefully.
Percentage of polling in Vizianagaram district was 94, followed by 92 in Srikakulam and 88 in Visakhapatnam. The three districts respectively have 3,723; 4,611 and 6,094 voters. Last time Srikakulam recorded 90.27 per cent polling, followed by Vizianagaram with 86.22 per cent and Visakhapatnam with 80 per cent.
District Collector and Returning Officer V. Sheshadri, Election Observer V.N. Vishnu, Route Officer and CEO of Zilla Praja Parishad D.V. Reddy went round the polling booths to ensure that the polling was conducted peacefully and without any flaws.
Mr. Sheshadri also observed the polling form his chamber at Collectorate through the web-casting facility provided at every polling booth.
