The State government has many student-friendly initiatives on the cards including providing bicycles to ninth class girl students, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said here on Sunday.

Giving away the ‘Pratibha Puraskarams’ to the SSC students from north coastal Andhra and East Godavari districts who achieved 10/10 CGPA, at Andhra University Convention Centre on Sunday, the Minister said that mid-day meal would be provided to Intermediate students and a proposal of providing breakfast to SSC students attending extra classes would be taken to the notice of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
Intermediate classes will also be launched at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas soon, he added. Participating in the award giving ceremony, GVMC Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan and Visakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman M.T. Krishna Babu announced ₹1 crore each, adding that prizes would be given away to the students who achieved 10/10.
MLA P.G.V.R. Naidu underlined the importance of career guidance to students. Students N. Divyasri (Gajuwaka), Kusalavardhan (Chintala Agraharam), Himabindu (Narsipatnam) and Srilata (Santabommali) were among the students who spoke at the function. ZP Chairperson Lalam Bhavani, MLC Gade Srinivasulu Naidu, VUDA Vice-Chairman P. Basanth Kumar, EPDCL CMD H.Y Dora, Vice-Chancellors G. Nageswara Rao, Mutyala Naidu and Kesava Rao and Prof. G.S.N. Raju and Regional Joint Director of Education Devananda Reddy others were present.
