Following a meeting GVMC officials had with Urban Transport Department of the Union Government at New Delhi, the approval for appointing a consultant for the Metro rail project is expected in the next few days.
The approval will pave the way for GVMC inviting tenders to finalise a consultant for the Metro rail project. Municipal Commissioner M V Satyanarayana on Monday met the Director of Metro Rail Projects and answered the 11 queries raised on the terms of reference sent to it seeking a Central grant for taking up the preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR).
The formal approval of the terms of reference is expected in the next few days, an official spokesman said.
The State and Central governments will foot 50 per cent each of the Rs.1.6 crore required for preparing the DPR.

Once the consultancy is approved, it will identify routes, other than the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), already being implemented for the Metro rail project.
With the cost per km of Metro at Rs.200 crore, the Metro rail project is proposed at a cost of Rs.5,000 crore.
With the special assistance promised during the passage of the Telangana Bill in Parliament, 90 per cent of the cost of the Metro project will be borne by the Central Government, it was stated.
