V. Sandesh, who secured 11 rank, and V. Rashmitha, 59 ranker in EAMCET 2012, opted for Andhra Medical College during the online counselling for admission into MBBS and BDS which commenced at the Online Admission Centre of Andhra University here on Friday.

Rector of Andhra University P.V.G.D. Prasada Reddy handed over the admission allotment letters to the two candidates to start the process of admissions. Prof. Reddy congratulated the candidates and their parents. Camp Officer M.S. Prasad Babu and Co-Camp Officer A. Satyanarayana, NSS Programme Coordinator N.A.D. Pal and others were present.

Sandesh was keen to join the Civil Services after completing his MBBS.

He could have chosen a shorter duration course like B.Tech. but Sandesh wants to fulfil the wishes of his parents to see him as a doctor.

“Once I have gone to call on a friend at a hospital and after watching the way he is treated and the functioning of the hospital I have decided that one of my children must study medicine”, said the boy’s father Sam Enoch, working in the NAI wing of INS Kalinga.

Sandesh’s elder sister is doing B. Pharmacy in the city and his mother Sri Devi being a staff nurse at King George Hospital also prompted Sandesh to study medicine.

The top 900 rankers of EAMCET 2012 were called for counselling on the first day as the process was held simultaneously at Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Tirupati with the candidates given the facility to choose the college any where in the State from any web counselling centre.

All 89 candidates who attended the online counselling at the AU centre joined MBBS in different government medical colleges of the AU area, Prof. Prasad Babu said.

There were some seats left in Ongole and Srikakulam government medical colleges on the first day.

First phase

The first phase of online counselling would continue till July 23 and the second and third phases till July 27. A total of 3,880 seats in MBBS and 1,071 in BDS are available in the State for admission through web counselling.
