In view of the ongoing project for redevelopment of Indira Gandhi Zoological Park under World Bank funded AP Disaster Recovery Project (APDRP), a one-day workshop with key stakeholders for the redevelopment plan was conducted recently. The master plan for the redevelopment of the zoo park has been taken over by Learn Nature Consultancy, Raipur. Under the APDRP, ₹ 36 crore has been allocated to the zoo for carrying out redevelopment work.
The master layout plan that the consultancy developed comprises disaster proof animal houses, additional conservation and breeding centres, establishment of visitor amenities with international standards also catering for physically challenged persons, veterinary and hospital infrastructure with mobile incentive care and rescue centres, infrastructure development including implementation of e-governance, CC network implementation for surveillance, interpretation centres, orientation centres, development of zoo education and research centres, road widening and parking. “The work is expected to begin by the beginning of the next financial year,” zoo curator B. Vijay Kumar said. Among other initiatives, the zoo authorities are also planning to start ‘green’ practices to make the IGZP a 100 percent plastic-free zone.
