Massive funding for city development, says Minister

For the development of the city, the Union Government had sanctioned several schemes at a cost of Rs.18,200 crore as part of JNNURM, Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development D. Purandeswari said on Tuesday.

She said the city was being developed to augment the existing infrastructure and amenities. The State Government was giving priority to development and welfare schemes to benefit the underprivileged sections of the society, she said after inaugurating a library built by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation at Nakkavanipalem at a cost of Rs.6.20 lakh. She praised the State Government for introducing ‘Rachabanda' programme. Later, she inaugurated community halls built at a cost of Rs.17.25 lakh by GVMC. MLA T. Vijay Kumar, Additional Municipal Commissioner B. Krishna Murthy, and corporator G.V. Ramani were present.
