The banned CPI (Maoist) has warned Pasupuleti Ramakrishna, a cousin of Tribal Welfare Minister P. Balaraju, that the people will punish him in a ‘praja court' if he failed to stop corrupt practices and other activities.
Maoist party Galikonda area committee secretary Krishna, in a press release sent to the Visakha Agency reporters, has alleged that Mr. Ramakrishna, a former sarpanch who was with the Telugu Desam, resorted to large-scale corruption, cheated unemployed tribal youth with a promise of employment, and exerted a lot of pressure on officials and employees.
Owing to his activities, many tribal people have lost their lands, according to the Maoist leader.
A government audit has also revealed that he had embezzled funds to the tune of Rs.30,000, he has said.
In a separate press release, Korukonda area committee secretary Narendra has reiterated the Maoist party's strong opposition to the bauxite mining proposal in the Visakha Agency and called upon tribal people to drive away officials and those supporting the formation of rehabilitation committee in the bauxite mining proposed areas, if they visited their villages.
The rehabilitation committees are meant only to deceive tribal people, Narendra has said asked tribal people to follow the example of Dumbriguda villagers who opposed the china clay mining and did not allow officials to enter their villages.
Dig at officials
He has also accused the officials and government of deceiving tribal people through Indiramma housing scheme in which corruption is rampant.
