Maoists, militia members surrender in Vizag.

An active member of Galikonda area committee of banned CPI (Maoist) Pangi Bhaskara Rao was arrested at Chintapalli, while a member of Kalimela area committee Korra Santhi, who was active in Malkangiri area of Odisha till recently and 11 active militia members from Pedavalasa area surrendered to the Visakhapatnam police here on Tuesday.

Pangi Bhaskara Rao (22) was involved in six murders and several cases of arson, faminie raids and blasting of A.P Forest Development Corporation’s coffee pulp unit, etc. He gave a hard time to the police for a week after being spotted at Chintapalli shandy before being arrested, Superintendent of Police Koya Praveen said at a press conference here.

Santhi (22) was involved in some violent incidents in Odisha for the last few years. She decided to surrender after she came to Gangavaram under Darakonda panchayat in G.K. Veedhi for treatment.

The rest of the surrendered persons are from Narellabanda village and were helping the Galikonda area committee of the Maoist party with logistic support and other activities like carrying blasting material, cutting trees and laying them across the roads, etc.

The surrendered Maoists would receive support from the Government as per the guidelines, Dr. Praveen said. Only the surrendered Maoists were eligible to receive government help, he said and appealed to the Maoists to surrender.

Officer on Special Duty (operations) Vishal Gunni, Deputy Commandant of CRPF Kishore, Deputy Superintendent of Police (SB) Y.V. Ramana, Inspector (SBX) A. Venkata Rao and others were also present.
