The ‘D.G. Dial 100’ launched on Ugadi last year to provide police services to the public in times of emergency, has been receiving good response from the public at the 17 police stations in the city.
The ‘D.G. Dial 100’ at the individual police stations is being manned round-the-clock by three constables in shifts. These constables, designated as ‘SPOC’, will receive the calls from the public and send police response teams to the required spot. They reach the scene of crime within 20 minutes and initiate necessary action and inform the Station House Office (SHO) concerned for further action.
A total of 2,306 calls were received from the public by ‘DG. Dial 100’ during last month (March). The highest number of calls – 316 – was received by Kancharapalem Police Station, followed by One Town police station – 306, Gajuwaka – 304 and Two Town Police Station – 245. The calls related to bodily offences were 238, property disputes 12, road accidents 356, suicides, nuisance, women harassment and other cases 1,133.
Criminal cases were registered on 101 calls and in 504 cases, the complainants and accused settled for a compromise. The public were satisfied with the action initiated by the police with regard to 1,802 calls. These include timely shifting of accident victims to hospitals by the EMRI 108 ambulance in coordination with the police and saving persons making suicide attempts and making them see reason through counselling.
Police Commissioner B. Shivadhar Reddy appealed to the public to make use of the service. He warned that those making fake calls would be punished by the SHO concerned in accordance with the law.
