A man was allegedly beaten to death by his co-brother and his family members over a land dispute at Satyavaram village under Payakaraopeta police station limits on Friday. The deceased was identified as 48-year-old B. Nageswara Rao.

According to police reports, Reddi Manga Rao and B Nageswara Rao were sons-in-law of one R. Papai of Satyavaram village. Papai shared his two acres of land equally with his sons-in-law at the time of getting his daughters married, as part of dowry.

About seven years ago, Nageswara Rao had purchased the one-acre of land belonging to his co-brother through a mediator by name Veerababu at a cost of Rs1.75 lakh. And since then he had been cultivating that land.

The mediator died around five years ago and ever since Manga Rao had refused to register the land in the name of Nageswara Rao. This had created a rift between the two families and a case was also pending in court.

On Friday, the victim was reportedly beaten to death by the accused and his family members during the course of a heated argument.

Based on a complaint filed by the wife of the deceased, Circle Inspector of Elamanchili, K Venkata Rao registered a case against Manga Rao, his wife Satyavathi and his son Manikanta.
