A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour at his house at Kothapeta under II Town police station limits on Sunday night, the police said. The girl is a second standard student.
The accused identified as A. Satyanarayana, an autorickshaw driver, went to the girl’s house on the pretext of borrowing a matchbox. The girl’s mother asked her to hand over the matchbox to him. But the accused took the girl to his room, locked the door from inside and committed the crime and absconded, said II Town Inspector P. Venkateswarlu.
The incident came to light when the girl’s mother went to Satyanarayana’s house after the child did not return home. As the door was locked, she peeped through the window and raised an alarm. On hearing her shout, the accused fled from the spot, the Inspector said.
Based on a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother, the police booked a case against Satyanarayana under Nirbhaya Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and launched a hunt to nab him.
