Making of ‘chandanam’ paste begins

Preparation of sandalwood paste (chandanam) for covering the idol of presiding deity of Simhachalam Sri Varaha Lakshmi Nrusimha Swamy after His “nijarupa darshan” on May 2 started early on Friday.

Led by chief priest Morta Sitaramacharyulu, ‘beda pradikshana’ was taken up after which the preparation of the paste began. Executive Officer Ramachandra Mohan participated.

Piece of sandalwood is ground on stone to make the paste. A large quantity of the sandalwood paste is required to cover the idol after the annual festival also known as Chandana yatra.
