A major fire broke out in one of the main storehouses of Indian Naval canteen stores, here on Saturday afternoon.

Though the cause of the fire is still to be ascertained, it is suspected that it was due to a short circuit in the main switch board of the godown, located in the ground floor of the two-storey building.

About seven fire tenders, including foam tenders, were pressed into service from Naval Dockyard, Eastern Naval Command, HPCL and Andhra Pradesh Fire Brigade.

The fire was noticed at about 2.45 p.m. and it took over four hours to douse the fire.

It is reported that grocery items, including cooking oil, were stored in the ground floor. There were no casualty or injuries and a Board of Inquiry has been set up by the ENC to investigate into the cause of the fire.
